Every project has a why underneath it, and this one goes back further than becoming a professional organizer.
At ten years old, I lost my oldest sister in a sudden accident. My parents handled that grief with more grace than anyone should ever have to summon, while still raising the two of us who were left. That kind of loss at that age changes how a person sees time itself. It taught me, far earlier than most people learn it, that tomorrow is never actually promised, regardless of age, health, or how carefully anyone plans. That understanding shaped a lifelong reluctance to wait for the “perfect” moment before trying something, even something a little scary, because there was never any guarantee of how much time there’d be to get around to it later.
Fast forward through marriage, four kids born within a seven-year stretch, and the eventual quiet realization that becoming naturally tidy and pulled-together was never simply going to happen by virtue of being home more. While weighing whether to return to work once the kids were all in school, a personal deep dive into getting organized turned into formal training, then into an unexpected new career entirely.
Here’s what became clear along the way: organizing someone else’s home is genuinely simple. Walking into a client’s space with zero emotional attachment to their belongings makes seeing solutions easy. What’s much harder, and what so much of the organizing industry quietly overlooks, is that people struggling with their own homes aren’t unintelligent, lazy, or unmotivated. They’re stuck. That distinction matters enormously, because most organizing advice is built by and for people whose brains naturally seek structure, and it can unintentionally shame everyone else in the process.
There’s an honest irony worth naming here too: much like the cobbler whose own children go shoeless, plenty of corners of my own home remain thoroughly unorganized, precisely because objectivity about your own space is nearly impossible to summon for yourself. That shared struggle, not immunity from it, is exactly why this whole project exists: a different angle on planning and organizing, one built for people who get stuck, not people who were simply never taught the difference between a bin and a basket.
Until next time, continue to choose joy.
