A little jolt of joy today, prompted by hitting a real milestone, six months into this podcast and a genuinely humbling amount of growth in the community around it. But more than the numbers, what strikes me most is that people have chosen to keep listening, to trust that this space has something worth offering them.
I want to be clear about something I feel is my real responsibility: I am not here to fix you, and I’m not here to fix your home, mostly because I don’t believe either one is broken in the first place. I don’t have all the answers, and I genuinely don’t think anyone does. There are people doing incredible, well-researched work on the ADHD brain, and I hope you seek them out too. What I care about is helping you embrace the value you already offer, exactly as you are.
Part of this whole project is pushing back on the idea that there’s one correct, tidy, Instagram-worthy version of a well-run home. A joy-loving home is built on embracing the moments you actually have with your family, not chasing a narrative that was never built for how your brain works. That means giving yourself permission to look past the mess sometimes, to not set expectations so impossibly high that you end up frustrated with kids who aren’t naturally neat, or a spouse who doesn’t pick up the way you imagined, or feeling like keeping the house together somehow has to fall entirely on you. Everyone living there gets to find their own way in it. Don’t let the pursuit of a perfect home crowd out the actual joy of the people living inside it.
So many people in this community have shared honestly what they struggle with most, and that honesty means something to me. It’s not a source of sadness, it’s an opportunity, a chance to keep looking at things from new angles, to keep trying different approaches together, and to remember that there’s no single fix that works forever for everyone. That’s exactly why experimenting together, sharing before-and-afters, trying new methods without fear of getting it “wrong”, feels like the right way to build this.
Thank you for trusting this journey, for showing up, for being willing to try things alongside me. I don’t take that lightly, and I’ll keep doing my best to listen, adjust, and bring in outside expertise where mine runs out.
Until next time, continue to choose joy.
