Day three of our 12 Days of Chaos series, still riding the 12 Days of Christmas song as our excuse to hit five-minute tasks on repeat while the holidays throw everything else at us.
The PDF that goes with this series says “three clean toilets,” which in hindsight should have read “three clean bathroom spots.” I mean three specific spots inside one bathroom, not three entire bathrooms in five minutes. Lesson learned mid-series, and that’s fine, you learn as you go.
Set a five-minute timer and start with your powder room, the bathroom guests are most likely to actually see, even the guests who know you well. That’s the one worth having in its best shape first. My own three spots were the mirror, the sink, and the toilet, and I genuinely beat my own timer by 22 seconds doing just those three.
You don’t need to repeat the same bathroom two days running. Tomorrow, move to a different one, whether your house has two bathrooms or seven, and keep cycling through them across the rest of the series. If you do find yourself back at an already-clean bathroom with time to spare, a quick wipe-down is enough to keep it holding steady.
Two fluffy pillows: another five-minute timer, this time on making the bed. If you finish early, dust a lamp, straighten a nightstand, or see if you can rediscover the top of your dresser, whatever fits in the time you’ve still got.
The “so that” schedule check from day one: glance back at your calendar or planner, see what’s happening today, and peek at tomorrow in case there’s something you’ll need to prep for ahead of time. We’re famous for creating lists and never looking at them again, so this daily glance-back is the whole point.
Set a five-minute timer and clean three specific spots in one bathroom today, mirror, sink, and toilet, or whatever three matter most in your house. Then glance at tomorrow’s schedule before you move on.
Until next time, continue to choose joy.
