Our brains are remarkably good at convincing us we never actually get anything done. This challenge exists purely to hand your brain evidence to the contrary, in fifteen minutes flat.
Look around right now and pick a spot that’s been bugging you. Frame it up with your phone camera and take a “before” photo. Don’t panic about how it looks — this photo is only for you.
Once the picture’s taken, set your timer and get moving in that one spot. Grab the trash first, then anything with an obvious home elsewhere — move it quickly to where it belongs, and come straight back. The goal is a real difference in the same space in 15 minutes, not wandering off to three other rooms along the way. Staying anchored to one spot is what keeps a distractible brain from drifting.
When the timer goes off, frame up the exact same shot and take your “after.” Slide back and forth between the two in your camera roll. It’s genuinely surprising how much changes in 15 minutes once you see it side by side instead of just trusting your memory of it.
For extra reinforcement, prop your phone up somewhere and record the whole 15 minutes as a time-lapse of yourself working. You’ll be moving too fast in the footage to critique yourself, and watching it back is oddly satisfying — real proof that you’re capable of motion, action, and visible change in your own space, not just proof that the space changed.
Pick one bugging spot right now, snap the before photo, and set your 15-minute timer. Stay in that one spot the whole time, then take the after shot from the same angle and actually look at both side by side.
Until next time, continue to choose joy.
